After a two year ‘gap’ we’re getting back in the boats for the Annual Age UK Salford Boat Race.

The event will take place during Dementia Action Week on Saturday 21st May, 1 – 5pm at Helly Hanson Watersports Centre on Salford Quays.   The day includes boat races, stalls, the Salford Angels WI Cake stall, music, fun, laughter and Carrs Pasties!

We will be bringing together older people, younger people and those in the middle to join in the fun of the boat race and learn more about the support available for families affected by dementia in Salford.  The day self-funds by selling boats to Salford services who provide a crew made up of staff and people affected by dementia.

‘This is our fourth boat race, whatever the weather we can guarantee that people will have great fun on the day.  From WI cakes through to the boat race, there’s loads on offer for the entire family to enjoy.  The day aims to positively challenge the stigmas associated with dementia.’ Emma Smith, Project Manager, Age UK Salford.

Dementia Action Week runs from the 16th – 22nd May, with dementia diagnosis rates at an all time low, the focus of this year’s week will be around encouraging people to get a diagnosis.

Age UK Salford are here to support people before and after diagnosis to get the support that they need.  We run a large Dementia Support Service for people affected by dementia in Salford.  The Service offers one-to-one and group-based support across the city (face to face and on Zoom) and delivers a range of training courses aimed at supporting carers to increase their dementia knowledge and better connect with family members living with dementia. The team also run online engagement sessions, a Buddy Service which provides social and activity groups for people with early-onset dementia alongside a specific course for people with early-onset dementia.

Age UK Salford is charity providing direct support and services to improve the opportunities, health and wellbeing of older people and carers.
